Dessert Recipes

Recipe ideas for how to enjoy homegrown fruit, whether tree fruit like apples and pears, to soft fruit like raspberries, strawberries, and currants.

Tayberry Compote

Compotes use significantly less sugar than jam and this helps the fruit flavours burst through. Tayberry compote is a favourite, but it is easy to substitute for more readily available fruit like raspberries or blackberries.

Strawberry Coulis

Strawberry coulis creates a stunning mouth watering dessert when drizzled over ice cream. It is very quick to make using strawberries, a little lemon juice, and sugar. No cooking is involved.

Rhubarb Crumble

Growing rhubarb, and making rhubarb crumble, is easy to do and much appreciated by friends and family. This is an every day rhubarb crumble recipe, reducing the amount of sugar and fat to a tasty but healthy minimum.

Melon Smash

Melon smash makes a sweet, light tasting, refreshing desert. It is quick to make containing melon, mint, olive oil, lemon juice, and salt. The recipe involves no cooking, simply place all the ingredients together and blitz.

Fruit Ice Lollies

Fruit ice lollies make great desserts. They can be made with fresh or frozen fruit, and require very little preparation. However, you will need a lolly mould and lolly sticks. A blender or chopper and a sieve come in very useful too.

Apple Pie

A delicious folded blanket of puff pastry containing rich apple sauce. Apple pie is a warming and comforting dessert to be enjoyed throughout the autumn and winter months. A family favourite.

Poached Plums

Plums become even sweeter when cooked, and this recipe shows off plums to their best poaching the fruit in a syrup with added port – if you like you can leave out the port and use more syrup instead. A dessert ideal for sharing with friends and family.

Baked Apples

Baking apples makes a very quick dessert, and really helps bring out the sweetness of the fruit. Add butter, honey, and dress up with a dollop of ice cream. It is a great way of using up apples that are a little sharp, or acidic, to eat fresh.

Fruit Tarts

Turning fruit into tarts is a great way to make a treat out of home grown fruit. Enjoyable all year round if using home made jam, or use baked or fresh fruit when in season.

Poached Pears

Poached pears are a light but delicious dessert. Poached in red wine, the pears absorb the colour and soften into the most delicious texture, accompanied by a sweet juice made from honey, cranberries, and mulled spices.

Strawberry Mousse

Not all mousse needs chocolate! Our strawberry mousse is a vitamin rich alternative. Simply swap the strawberries for other soft fruit that you prefer.

Fruit Meringue Swirls

Fruit meringue swirls are bite sized portions of meringue combined with the juice of the fruit of your choosing. Our recipe uses raspberries, but strawberries, blackberries or blackcurrants would work really well too.

Eton Volcano

A signature treat made from sweet meringue, creme fraiche, and raspberries. Its stunning looks belying that it is easy to make. One Eton volcano is never enough!

Eton Mess

Eton mess is fabulously sweet tasting dessert combining crunchy meringue, cream, and fresh raspberries. For our recipe, we swapped out the whipped cream for creme fraiche for a lower fat alternative.
